5:36pm- We welcome Charlotte Lily Laughton into the world. She is the most beautiful thing we have ever seen.
3:30pm- Some pictures for your viewing pleasure, per request of Ariel's mom.
3pm- Doctor checks Ariel once again. The pitocin worked like a charm and now Ariel is dilated to a 7 and 100% effaced. The baby is still at -2 station so she needs to move down soon. They are draining her bladder to give the baby some space to move down.
1pm- Dr. checks Ariel again. Now only dilated to a 5, 90% effaced, baby at -2 station. We are disappointed with the lack of progress but the doctor is more so. She suggests pitocin to strengthen and hasten contractions and dilation. We are going to go with it but Ariel needs to have an adjustment in her epidural to deal with the increased pain. The epidural has generally only been working on one side and Ariel feels some pain in her right hip.
Noon- Epidural seems to be working fine. Adam's mom got here an hour or so ago and has been helping out. A couple of hours ago, the doctor said we were still at a 4, but a little more effaced.
9:30am- Epidural is in place and Ariel has her finger on the button. Relief is setting in...
8am- We got moved into our permanent room and are waiting for the on-call physician from our OB practice to get here to check Ariel again. Contractions are coming now but nothing too overwhelming. The anesthesiologist has already been here and Ariel has made her intentions regarding the epidural perfectly clear.
7am- Ariel is dilated to 3-4cm and has the IV in place
6:30am- Arrived at hospital after showers and a little breakfast. Duke Hospital will valet park your car when you come to have a baby delivered. Hospital looks pretty quiet and we go right into triage.
4:30am- Ariel felt like her water just broke and a couple of small contractions have started. She called the hospital and the on-call physician from our OB practice told us to shower, get ready, and come to the hospital. Since we only went to bed about two or two and a half hours ago, we are functioning (such as it is) on pure adrenaline. Looks like this is it!

adam and ariel-- we have been checking your blog for updates all day. we are so excited for you!! super good luck. ariel--you are a trooper--you've dialated so much....i never even got past a 3. we can't wait to see pictures---baby girls are the best....prepare to fall deeply and madly in love!! all of our best (again).

I noticed you were not at church today and a definite baby alert went off in my mind. Charlotte is so beautiful. Congratulations, Ariel and Adam! This is so great. I am getting very teary-eyed with the coolness of it all. I can't wait to see Charlotte once things have settled down for you.

She is perfect! I'm so sorry we missed getting to meet her by just 3 days! Glad that she arrived before Daddy had to go to training. We love you all!
